![]() ![]() The prosecutor and Tarrio’s defense attorney both cited Tarrio’s extensive cooperation in arguing that his sentence of 30 months should be cut. The details of Tarrio’s cooperation, which was first reported Wednesday by Reuters, were found in a transcript of a 2014 hearing in federal court in Florida regarding his sentence for participating in a scheme involving the resale of diabetic test strips. The Proud Boys have railed against a “deep state” and work to break down the current government system, and so the revelations of Tarrio as a federal informant came as quite a surprise. The Proud Boys is a far-right, male chauvinist extremist group that seized on the Trump administration’s policies and was a major agitator during earlier protests and the Capitol riot on Jan. Henry “Enrique” Tarrio helped law enforcement in a variety of investigations nearly a decade ago by providing information and going undercover, the records show. ![]() ![]() The leader of the Proud Boys, who was arrested in Washington shortly before the Capitol riot, previously worked undercover and cooperated with investigators after he was accused of fraud in 2012, court documents show. Well, people have been saying for a while that we all have to get accustomed to having several careers. “I knew that he was a fraudster – but had no reason to know that he was also a domestic terrorist,” she said. Former prosecutor Johannes said she was surprised that the defendant she prosecuted for fraud is now a key player in the violent movement that sought to halt the certification of President Joe Biden. #Proud boy informant fullLife, as it turns out, is full of surprises. Superior Court ordered him to leave the city pending a court date in June. He was charged with possessing two high-capacity rifle magazines, and burning a Black Lives Matter banner during a December demonstration by supporters of former President Donald Trump. Washington police arrested Tarrio in early January when he arrived in the city two days before the Capitol Hill riot. The records uncovered by Reuters are startling because they show that a leader of a far-right group now under intense scrutiny by law enforcement was previously an active collaborator with criminal investigators. So the leader of the resistance against the tyranny of face masks and Nancy Pelosi was a garden-variety FBI snitch? A fella's got to pay for all those armbands somehow. Who among us hasn't forgotten our first job diming out drug dealers? “I don’t know any of this,” he said, when asked about the transcript. Tarrio, in an interview with Reuters Tuesday, denied working undercover or cooperating in cases against others. In the Miami hearing, a federal prosecutor, a Federal Bureau of Investigation agent and Tarrio’s own lawyer described his undercover work and said he had helped authorities prosecute more than a dozen people in various cases involving drugs, gambling and human smuggling. In December, Husney called Kim and told him he wanted to rerelease the movie. Moviegoers ate up the bad dialogue, laughed at the bad special effects and staged ninja fights, and reveled in a heavy dose of ’80s cheese.Ĭarlson pushed the film to Evan Husney, creative director for the Alamo Drafthouse’s distribution arm, Drafthouse Films. He screened it around Austin and noticed a huge, positive response. When Carlson got a hold of it, enough time had passed so that it was received as something wholly different. But the film bombed, and Kim saw his endeavor slip into obscurity (along with the roughly $1 million it cost to make). He continued trying to get major distributors for a national release and even tried to rally Hollywood bigwigs at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. The film opened in September 1988, limited to eight theaters in the Orlando area. “When I finished the movie, I showed this to hundreds of different studios and distribution companies,” Kim said. Kim said he had high hopes that his creative work would find a distributor and explode onto the national scene. With the assistance of funding from Kim and some investors, “Miami Connection” was filmed in Orlando and Miami. Most of the actors and crew were Kim’s tae kwon do students. Kim, a central Florida martial-arts expert, who was pitched the idea of a feature-length film after director Richard Park saw him in the mid-’80s on the South Korean talk show “Meet at 11 p.m.” Though it’s not always easy to figure out what exactly is going on in “Miami Connection,” the story follows members of Dragon Sound as they find themselves mixed up with a group of ninjas linked to the bubbling cocaine trade out of Miami. #Miami connection movie#“We instantly scheduled the movie to play during our weekly exploitation series.” “We played a reel in the (Alamo Drafthouse), and the few people that were in the theater went bananas,” Carlson said. He won it for a mere $50, having no idea he was the first step in the film’s unlikely comeback. Originally made in 1987, “Miami Connection” was rediscovered in June 2009 when Zack Carlson, a programmer at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Austin, Texas, came across it on eBay and made a blind bid on it. Which is exactly why some fans consider it great.īut the term “great” is relative. In the context of the film, nothing about this scene really drives the plot, furthers the character development or makes much sense at all. The dialogue hardly matches up with the characters’ mouth movements, and the scene ends with two characters making out in the tide, waves crashing down around them. As the band members drive along the shore, they catcall out to women with painful lines such as “they don’t make buns like those down at the bakery,” trying to pick them up using phony French accents. (They’re in a band called Dragon Sound, which serves as a vehicle for their tae kwon do-inspired songs). The film’s heroes, a group of five University of Central Florida students who are martial-arts experts (and orphans), hit up the beach for some much needed fun in the sun. Thirty minutes into the movie “Miami Connection” the audience sees a classic ’80s montage scene, except there’s something a bit off. ![]() ![]() TPWD works with the National Marine Fisheries Service to establish the opening and closing of the red snapper fishery in waters in Texas. In practice, the best precision I can realistically achieve with either the 24mm PC-E or the 45mm PC-E lens is ‘about half a degree’. The tables below shows the distance of the hinge point from the camera, in metres, with the corresponding angle of tilt required to achieve that hinge distance. This is an enormously useful thing to know when trying to achieve the right focus in an image using a tilt/shift lens as it makes achieving something close to the right focus very rapid, with only minor adjustments needed after framing the image. The key point, however, is that tilting the lens produces a ‘hinge point’ around which this plane will rotate when the focus is changed, and that this ‘hinge point’ is a predictable distance from the camera, for a given angle of tilt. For a detailed description, see Tim Parkin’s article on tilt in Great British Landscapes magazine. The degree of tilt and the focusing of the lens both affect just where this plane is. ![]() Rather, it’s a wedge, with the narrow end towards the camera and the wide end in the distance. Iconic Queen Anne Victorians to minimalist/modern rebuilds, each property offers a unique perspective within its position in the Bay. Becoming more condensed by the day, I am fortunate to have access to some unique homes and locations in and around San Francisco. I started this project as a way to test the full capabilities of my lenses and it has become a personal four year chronicling of the Bay Area with its spirit in mind. Sometimes I would deliver the image to the client, most of the time I end up archiving, and on occasion I post something that catches my attention, some of which I have posted as a grouping here. Several hundred properties per year, a need for a break in the monotony, and the realization that my lenses were only being half used, I began shooting at least one frame using the tilt function of the lenses at almost every property that I booked. For a more detailed explanation of the Scheimpflug principle, check out the Wikipedia article. Rotate or “tilt” the paper in any direction, and that, in concept, will be the plane in sharp focus in your photo, different from a standard camera lens which fixes the plane of focus or “piece of paper” always parallel to the photographer. Using the “tilt” feature of the TS-E gives the photographer control over the plane of focus angle.Īn easy way to visualize this can be achieved by holding a piece of paper out in front of you and imagining that it is the angle of the camera’s sensor. I love the amount of flexibility the TS-E lenses give me, but I was not using the tilt function at all when I first started using these lenses. These small reductions in workflow time add up to larger gains in aggregate. Boom, one frame, no need to spend time stitching multiple photos in post-processing. The shift function of a TS-E lens gives me control of camera perspective during a real estate shoot which just can’t be done during post-processing in certain situations, and I use the shift function of the TS-E lenses to some degree on 90% of my interior/exterior shots.įor example, I can set up a camera on a tripod at eye level in order to see over a countertop and then down “shift” the lens in order to still capture the flooring in the frame. Normally, you need an expensive tilt/shift lens and an SLR to get this effect. There’s a point to all this: expediting workflow also gave me a solid reason to pick up a couple of tilt-shift (TS-E) lenses. GLOW The bokeh in an image takes the shape of the lens aperture. So in order to maximize my return and also meet my clients’, sometimes same day, marketing schedules’, I focused on minimizing my workflow, getting my shots done in camera as much as possible, and “quick and dirty editing”. My typical client wants wide and bright photos, with an emphasis on quick turn around time. ![]() ![]() ![]() Because of the nature of doublestrike, chumping Disciplined Duelist with a small creature will not get rid of the shield counter. Lagrella, the Magpie‘s ability is a new twist on an old classic. Brokers Uncommonsīant, or Brokers, also has access to the best uncommons in the set. Metropolis Angel is a threat on its own that can replace itself immediately more often than not unless your opponent answers it at instant speed. ![]() Having access to Exotic Pets makes it very difficult for the deck to end up in a disadvantageous board stall. Between the two, I personally think UW is a little better. These archetypes both have excellent early tempo options that can grind late. UW focuses a lot on having creatures with counters on them, while GW focuses on having citizens and making them bigger. Here’s why:īrokers gets both of the best two color archetypes in its color identity. Everyone and their dog who as drafted this set a few times knows that Brokers is where its at. You can look at winrates on various draft tracking sites, all of the data will point towards the same conclusion. There is never a situation where there won’t be an exception, and the exception in this format is huge: Brokers is Brokenīrokers is on a totally different level from the other draft archetypes in SNC. Even if you manage to create a mana base that can support three colors, you will need to high pick a lot of lands, causing the quality of your spells to drop. It’s easier than you think to get mana screwed with a deck like this. Playing a true three color deck that cares about each color equally is too difficult for your mana base. As a result, the best thing a player can be doing is either to play one of the unadvertised two color archetypes, or to play a two color archetypes with a splash to play some of the three color family cards. A lot of the time, they’re strictly worse than two color decks. The biggest misconception about the format is how viable three color decks are. Because of the nature of SNC draft, while a complicated three color set may make it seem like there is a cool unique way to draft it, drafting fundamentals are really the most important thing with this set. ![]() You don’t have a lot of time to sort your situation out before you can’t come back on board. This also punishes decks that are running multiple colors with unreliable mana bases. Falling behind on board is the easiest way to lose a lot of games in this format. Two drop creatures are at an absolute premium. Playing three to four colors in sealed is common, and if you’re lucky enough to open a decent 16 land aggro deck, you’re in a good spot.ĭraft cares a lot more about tempo, and is a lot faster than this format’s Sealed. Sealed plays out as you would expect for a three color set: an 18 land format where tempo and the ability to grind are generally equally important. Sealed and Draft for this format are incredibly different. I’ll start with what I think are the two most important points when playing MTG Streets of New Capenna draft, or SNC for short: Back to Basics Here I will outline what I have learned so you don’t make the same mistakes that I have. The biggest shock is that a lot of the archetypes being pushed in this set aren’t actually good to go into… most of the time. The Arena Open has just passed, and Streets of New Capenna feels more solved than ever… or does it? There are some strategies that are stronger than others, but when everyone at your table is trying to do the same thing, opportunities can be found with all the archetypes that they are missing. ![]() ![]() Waste Pro’s museum is a legacy to John’s father, an Irish immigrant who earned an honest living and taught John the importance of service and the impact our solid waste workers have on the cleanliness of the communities they serve.
